Alert:
Harpers Ferry NHP has seen an increase in visitation over the past several years, which has led to full parking lots with visitors still attempting to enter the park. These situations impact visitor and staff safety, with overflowing vehicular traffic impeding park shuttle bus operation and impacting US Highway 340. Park rangers must close the gates to the main parking lot on Shoreline Drive and direct people to go elsewhere, which has recently resulted in parking along Shoreline Drive, in local neighborhoods, and beyond. We hope this information will assist you for this upcoming weekend:
- We do foresee our lots filling on Saturday, 10/26, and possibly Sunday, 10/27.
- Recent experience indicates that the lots usually close sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. They are usually closed for about one hour.
- Closures and reopenings are posted on our social media pages. Harpers Ferry NPS Facebook, and Harpers Ferry NPS Twitter.
- Park staff request the visitors find lunch/go shopping in a nearby town, follow our social media, and return when the lot is reopened.
- NPS Park Rangers do not have the authority to handle illegally parked vehicles on your property, as it is out of their jurisdiction.
