Experience the Wonder!
The Town of Bolivar will be hosting its 2nd annual Lantern Parade on New Year’s Eve, Tuesday, Dec. 31st at 5 pm along Washington Street. There will be several days of free lantern-making workshops leading up to the Parade for those who would like to participate. This year’s theme is “Woodland Wonders.” For more information, and for workshop registration details, please visit the Bolivar website, www.bolivarwv.org or call the Town office at (304) 535-2476. Come, experience the wonder! (Sponsored by the Town of Bolivar, Jefferson County Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Jefferson Arts Council.)
Learn how to make a sculptural paper lantern for the parade in a free workshop with artist and instructor Valeska Populoh!
DATE: Friday, December 27
TIME: 6 – 9 PM
LOCATION: Bolivar Community Center
THEN, drop in to complete your lantern during open studio hours with Valeska & Peter on Sunday & Monday, Dec 29 & 30, 10 AM – 5 PM.
Please Note: We are making lanterns for the parade on Dec 31, 2024. This workshop is designed for adults, but no experience is necessary. A teen student may accompany a parent or adult. Because we are creating the lanterns from paper and reed, it is helpful to partner with someone. Bring a friend or be open to working with another workshop participant; an extra set of hands is useful! If you cannot make the parade, but want to learn how to make a lantern, please take the workshop! We will find someone to carry your lantern in the parade, then you can pick up your lantern during office hours in January.
The Bolivar- Harpers Ferry Public Library will host a FREE paper lantern-decorating activity for children on Monday, Dec 30 at 11:30 AM (while supplies last).
If you are interested in registering for the workshops, please email your name, adress, telephone #, and age if a teenager (under 18). You may email [email protected] and provide this information for registration.
Don’t have time to make or decorate a lantern with us? You can participate in the procession by bringing a paper lantern illuminated with LED lights from home, by wearing twinkle lights, or by playing an instrument!
The parade procession begins at 5 PM. We’ll begin to assemble at 4:30 PM. Meet-up details will be posted here mid-December.
